Tips to catching squid
1. Fish over the high tide
2. Fish areas where there is little, or perferably no, wind
3. Fish dawn and dusk (night-time isn't as good as dusk) - in other words wait until you have a high tide around 7pm (early next week)
4. Use stimulant on your jigs
5. change jig size and colour often - if there are squid around but not hitting the jig then change down to a smaller jig of a different colour.

Look what happened today in the Harbour 17.03.08
Fished in the arvo today with Drkcld, i was the first one to hook up the kingie. This time its the first time on my 30lb braid outfit. So i was confident, usually on the 2kg gear. So i turned up the drag and was fighting it, it was around 75cm model weight. Then it kept running and then popped my leader, cuz i totally forgot about the 20lb FC leader i was using. If i remembered i wouldnt have turned the drag that high, around 80% drag.
Then me and drkcld burleyed for some yakkas with bread, dropped my size 12 hook in with a bit of prawn. I hooked up and it felt heavy. Then it started running out! w0ohooo im on again! Fought for about a minute. But this kingie was small probably a small rat 50cm to 60cms. It ran then got so tired and was just liek a dead weight, i pumped an wind in the video, and then it tried for a run again WHILE i was pumping, then quickly popped my 10lb leader !!! argh! ahwellz as expected with 10lb line
there goes my day.
Drkcld's 2kg gear was next, got smashed by a bigger one probably around 70cm. He was using 6lb fireline and 10lb trace. Fought and fought it swam around the place left and right and then it went under and pyloned him HAHA. The fight was pretty long too, around 5 minutes, but it was no where near tired out.
HAHA Drkcld told me he has only landed 1 kingie out of 30 kingy hookups.
For me still Zero:4 hookups
His a video of me pumping the kingie

Kingies kingies and more kingies!!!! 4.03.08
best fishing session for drkcld at least i wasnt there but he reported to me on the fone like i was. LOL finally everyone reading this give Drkcld a round of applause. He finally after 1 year of trying landed his first kingfish @ 69cm, 3kg from sydney harbour!
I love how this season provided the harbour with so much fish. I must record all the things he used down for future reference.
20lb vanish mainline, no trace, no swivel, just straight thru with size 12 longshank with a bit of peeled prawn. Tried jiggling it a bit. Movement was wat attracted them. Burleyed bread 1 piece every 20-30mins. Also used a big yakka rigged on nose, to let it splash on the surface to attract the kingies. Movement and splashes is wat attracts them. Try not to use hook too big. Tried a 3" soft plastic but nothing followed. Live yakka was ok but has to be small. Fireline crystal is better than the rest. Vanish is brilliant, cheapest Fluoro and really good. Need 10kg rod for sure for these kingies. Pray u dont hook up a hoodlum or it'll bust u off like it happened to drkcld LOL. It was biting for 1 hour. Came 30mins before high tide. High tide was at 7:00pm. It is also important to adjust your drag right.
now here's the photos
.
Drkcld took this video of the kingies stalking the livie on Disco's rod. And then he stopped the video cause he had another hookup on his rod.
How good is that?!?! im so going fishing, very soon

Sydney harbour 1.03.08
fish my usual spot again with Drkcld. Got there at 10am and fished till 6pm. Now we are currently sunburnt lol.
Anyways we burleyed 40 litres of soaked bread for kingies. Hooks up a surgeon unexpectedly and lost it to pylon. Dam those surgeons. Then around high tide we finally see the fish we came for. I yelled out "kingie!" to Drkcld when i saw it 2 metres in front on teh surface looking for food in the burley trail. I chucked my pillie cube and prawn cube but didnt work. It worked the day before. I think these kingies stay under the wharf to ambush the baitfish.
Anyways it was around 5pm moved to the shady area and started fishing next to this pro fisherman guy that looks like he knows what his doing. He burleyed and I caught yakkas and nice trevs next to him, fun on light gear.
I broke my PB for yakka by 1cm, measuring at 32cm for these two yakkas i caught, kept them.
While just playing with my livie on the surface letting it splash around it attracted 4 or 5 KINGIES!!!!! They all came out from under and harassed the livie next to me on that guys rod. IT hoodlums busted him off in no time. LOL no way he was going to land that.
TIP: I found that this new technique of splashing the yakka on the surface with its own tail will attract kingies.
I proceed to my "one last cast" for an extra 30mins and managed to land 2 just legal trevs and lost a bigger one on the surface, both on light gear.
this one was 32cm my new PB for yakkas!

mini report: Irresponsible Fisherman at pier
I have to report this. Some guy left an undersize flounder of 21cm (25cm legal) on the pier to dry and die for absolutely no reason! For $#$^ sake why cant these guys just throw it back instead of just leaving it there.
they literally keep every single fish they catch and if its too small they put it on the pier and let it dry and die off like that. They dont believe in releasing the fish! **** you old man.
This is the SECOND time i found a fish left on the wharf to die. First time was the FAMOUS Mr and Mrs lee (famous for illegal activity) leaving the poor 30cm undersized baby flattie to dry and die on the pier. Luckily it has only been 5 mins after they left until i discovered it and saved it by throwing it back.
sick of these people!
criminal evidence
